The goal of the full three-session course
is to provide the dentist with detailed instruction on the diagnosis and
treatment
of occlusal and temporomandibular disorders that are treated in the
modern dental practice. Instruction will be provided
through lectures, demonstrations, videotapes, mini-clinics and many
‘participation’ laboratory exercises that include the
fabrication of orthopedic appliances, physical modalities, computer
diagnostics and radiology. In-office teaching centers
will be utilized during the third session to provide the optimum
instructional setting.
Session 1 - Diagnosis & Treatment
TM 1A
View Agenda
This first session’s instruction will center on the anatomy, histology,
physiology and biomechanics of the temporomandibular
joint and associated musculature. You will learn the physical
examination and medical/dental history taking procedures.
Instruction on record taking including: radiology, photography, physical
assessment and range of motion studies. Instruction
features a hands-on prospective that includes a cadaver session.
Additionally each doctor will learn how to incorporate TMJ
treatment and neuromuscular occlusion into both fixed and removable
prosthetics as well as orthodontic occlusion.

The second 3- day class will focus on the various phase 1 treatment
modalities. Emphasis will be on physical medicine and
dental orthotics. Phase 2 of stabilization treatment will constitute the
remaining instructional material. The participant will
discover the many stabilization dental appliances including fixed
prosthetics, removable partials, over-partials, bite restorers,
full dentures and orthodontics. Case presentations, fees, collections

The final session is designed as a clinical-laboratory learning
experience that features six learning centers. The class is
divided into six groups of no more than four participants each. Each
center features one or more instructors in an intense
hands-on learning session. These workshops will cover: appliance
construction & adjustments, patient management,
electro-diagnosis, office management, imaging, physical modalities, and
occlusal workshop.
These three intense days will allow you to experience
the clinical objectives when treating the TMJ pain patient.

OBJECTIVES
-
Learn to recognize, diagnose and treat Orofacial pain and occlusal
disorders.
-
To learn the anatomy and physiology of the head and neck, and to know
if the TMJ’s are normal and what to do if they are not.
-
Become skilled at physical examination procedures including:
dental/medical health history, photography, physical assessment,
diagnostic imaging and bioelectric instrumentation for the TMJ
dysfunctional patient.
-
See how to evaluate comprehensive records and develop comprehensive
treatment plans and have them accepted by the
dental patient.
-
To learn the protocols of treatment through a multidisciplinary
approach to full body treatment and how to recognize and treat
